Career Corner and Project Prom
A signature project of the JLGC, housed at Dogwood Cottage, Career Corner helps prepare women in difficult economic circumstances to transition into the workforce. Wardrobe consultation, outfits, accessories, job interviewing skills and guidance to create a professional appearance are part of the program.
Identifying needs through local community agencies and churches, JLGC collects appropriate clothing and then works directly with clients. Most are women referred through Habitat for Humanity, and two workshops are offered throughout the year. These train participants in resume writing, interviewing skills, and proper business attire.
Career Corner also sponsors Girls' Health Day, a workshop for pre-teen and teenage girls, which educates them about drug and alcohol abuse prevention, female health issues, self-esteem building techniques, grooming and health maintenance.
Project Prom is a Career Corner subsidiary which helps high school girls in their junior and senior years enjoy an evening at prom which would otherwise have been unavailable to them due to economic circumstances. Candidates are identified as having special needs by local high school counselors. JLGC collects donated dresses, shoes and accessories. The girls are invited to Dogwood Cottage for a "shopping day" where they are free to choose an entire prom wardrobe at no charge.

Children's Museum of St. Tammany
In partnership with St. Tammany parish government, JLGC continues its steadfast work on the Children's Museum of St. Tammany. This 20,000 square foot, visionary, state of the art complex will be located near the parish’s administrative headquarters on Koop Drive. It will consist of interior and exterior exhibit space for permanent and national traveling exhibits, hands-on learning experiences, retail space, parking to accommodate cars and tour buses, an outdoor amphitheatre and a Children’s Village.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place in March, 2009, with a dymanic and star-studded kids' concert featuring Playhouse Disney's Choo Choo Soul and Radio Disney. The Museum recently received Genevieve's costume as a gift and momento from the entertainers. It is being stored so that it can be prominently displayed when the museum is built. On March 7, 2010, the third annual fundraiser, "A Celebration of Exploration...A Night for the Museum" was held at the Castine Center in Mandeville, successfully furthering efforts in museum progress.
The museum will appeal to children ages 2 to 13 and include a technology area for older children. The facility will accommodate summer camp programs, birthday parties and meeting facilities.

Under the auspices of the St. Tammany parish Children’s Advocacy Center, Hope House is a non-profit organization located within walking distance of the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center. The Hope House mission is to lessen the trauma for young victims of sexual abuse, ages 3 to 16, by providing a safe environment for them to render videotaped forensic interviews to be used as evidence at trial against the perpetrator. JLGC volunteers assist the staff with clerical duties and greet visitors to the center. JLGC funding helps provide stuffed animals for the children, videotapes for interviews and information and educational materials.
