Project Homecoming hits Covington with bevy of dresses to pick
Project Prom, an event by the Junior League of Greater Covington, goes on every spring to help gather donated formal dresses for local students. The Junior League’s premier event also has a fall edition as well.
The fall edition is called Project Homecoming.
Girls can say yes to that special party dress at Project Homecoming’s event on Saturday Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at 529 N. Columbia St. in Covington at the Junior League Dogwood Cottage.
What a fun time, complete with door prizes and free make-up and hairstyling sessions by the Aveda Institute. Most girls bring a friend or a mom to share the day.
It’s good to get there early. At Project Prom, some girls were in line at 8:30 a.m. Project Homecoming is solely a public service. The Junior League of Covington does not receive any financial benefit from this event.
Flyers are sent to all St. Tammany Parish Schools and posted in the area and on social media.
Held two months before homecoming season, the date of Project Homecoming gives the girls ample time for alterations and other preparations. Each Project Homecoming attendee can select one dress and accessories (shoes, purse and jewelry).
There is no low income requirement or qualifying process other than registration in a St. Tammany Parish school.
While the majority of dresses at the event come from local clothing stores, donations to the event will be accepted at Air Blow Dry Bar and Salon at 1111 N. Causeway Blvd. Ste F in Mandeville 985.626.1402. www.airdrybar.com until Aug. 19. For every dress donated, the donor will receive a $5 credit toward future services. Five dresses? Five credits.
The Junior League can be contacted at www.jlgc.net , email@example.com, 985.892.5285 or on Facebook at Junior League of Greater Covington.
