28 Oct Children’s Museum of St. Tammany
The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany was initiated by and is the signature project of the Junior League of Greater Covington and is a partnership with St. Tammany Parish and the St. Tammany Parish Public Schools.
The 20,000 square foot, hands-on learning environment will serve the developmental needs and cognitive interests of 2-12 year olds while providing entertainment to our families and expanding upon the curriculum of our schools. The League continues its support of this project and dedicates hundreds of volunteer hours each year to making it a reality for the children of St. Tammany.
In 2011, the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany was incorporated in the state of Louisiana and has since been designated as its own 501©(3). A Board of Trustees, Advisory Board and Council have been established and plans call for the eventual addition of operational staff for long term management.
The Children’s Museum’s “first stop” will be at Kids Town, a new mini-town project at the Koop Drive Trailhead. Built to resemble an old Western town complete with a Sheriff’s Office, General Store, and Post Office, Kids Town will have classrooms and exhibition space to foster an educational and fun learning environment for toddlers through early school-aged children. Kids Town is scheduled to open its first phase in Fall 2017!
The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany’s permanent home will be located in the proposed Cultural Arts District which is an initiative of St. Tammany Parish. The proposed Cultural Arts District will be located adjacent to the Colonial/Pinnacle retail property at the Highway 21 – I-12 corridor and the Tchefuncte River.
The Children’s Museum’s two major annual fundraisers include Black & Gold Day and Celebration:
Black & Gold Day is a fall favorite as the community comes together to show their Saints pride while benefiting the Museum project. Each year, the St. Tammany Parish School System and many private schools and businesses participate by donating $1 or more to the Children’s Museum in exchange for wearing their black & gold to school or work. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about this exciting day!
Our 11th annual Celebration will be held in early 2018. Please plan to join us for an evening of live music and entertainment, live and silent auctions and food from dozens of the area’s finest restaurants. Celebration is frequently lauded as one of the North Shore’s premier events and is not to be missed!
